My objection to the dorm has never been just about the welfare of Gardeners, but also the welfare of Singaporeans of every creed living in Singapore.Changing the way in or out of that dorm compound is just shifting the problem from one place to the other.
It doesn't resolve the problem. AMK residents should voice their concerns if they have any, and I am sure they do have concerns. The idea of having a dorm there is just poor planning. It's like wearing a dress for a cocktail party, and then putting on flip-flops to go with it.I have a feeling that the dorm's go-ahead has to do with Mr Mah's ego.
He most probably made the decision a long time ago, and refused to give in to the wishes of the residents of SG. In addition, I think only Mr Mah could have come up with such a silly and simplistic 'solution' to the problem - Serangoon Gardeners not happpy? Oh, just change the exits lah. Mr Mah has a record of making simplistic policies - 'Oh, traffic jam ah? Just increase the price for using the road lah.' I have to clarify before I get sued, though.
The above is just my hunch as to what transpired. It may or may not be a fact, so please don't sue me for just making a guess without evidence. Thanks.
Isn't this lady owning? The sentences in red and in italics just goes to show how she isn't supporting 'cohabiting' with foreign workers. What's worse is that she actually has the nerve to worry about being sued when she's being so selfish and saying things SOOOO loud.
i was initially put off when i read about the serangoon gardens residents reaction towards the fw. but thinking about it now.. was the media depiction of the residents accurate? the ministers tried to calm the residents, but what if our millionaire ministers are the ones staying at serangoon gardens? This isn't the best opinion yet.Niagara on December 7th, 2009 3.01 pm says:

Uh, yeah. I so agree with this post. The residents at Serangoon Gardens are lacking in compassion man.Dnalc, October 06, 2008 Monday, 09:40 AM says:
"They called for the complex to be fenced in and suggested shuttle buses be arranged on weekends to ferry workers to places like Bishan or Ang Mo Kio Central."Well.. ferry them to places other than their own. This speaks volumes of the mentality these people have.
*nods* i totally wouldn't want to live in a community as such. What's even worse is that they came up with excuses like 'the property prices in this area will drop'. LIKE TOTALLY WTH.Hlchina, Oct 06 2008, Monday, 10.20 a.m. says:
I suppose if the plan by the government is to increase the plot ratio of Serangoon Garden to build a 5-star luxury apartment at the same site, the residents at SG will not be complaining about the trucks, crane, noise, traffic congestion, bus load of foreign workers going in and out of the site and most of all, the ang mohs who will come live next to them as neighbours, sharing the same food court and shopping center.
I am glad that I am not living at SG. I cant imagine myself having to put up with such a self centered community.
What exactly is she trying to prove? She's like making her stand worse. Furthermore, if i'm right, she's being racist. She's totally selfish when she says 'foreign workers would not be able to put up with blah blah...' Its so obvious who's the one pushing the other away. In fact, i've a rebuttal to her inconsiderate comment. She's apparently thriving in a self-centered community that she's afraid of foreign workers who, according to her, holds the threat 'make way.'HelenaYeo, October 06, 2008 Monday, 10:31 AM says:
Why must a 5-star luxury apartment house only ang mohs? Indians, PRC Chinese, Arab expats could live there. Some people have yet to understand that this is not about 'white being better'. I am sure the Gardeners would not want ang mohs who look like they would rape them as neighbours either. But it would've been good if Mr Mah had thought that foreign workers would not be able to put up with such a self-centred community. Whether this thought is wrong or right, at least if Mr Mah had that thought, the gahmen might not have decided to build that dorm there.
Other comments which I've not bothered to name:
This is not acceptance, but apathy from helplessness. sounds familiar?
no amount of propaganda is going to change Serangoon Gardens residents decision to vote the PAP out. Vote for Change, vote the PAP out.
Good luck to you all living in S'goon Gardens. You can protest but to no avail. S'pore does not has enough space for these foreign talents to live. Next time round, the govt will ask you to rent them your rooms to let these FTs learn how to fit in.
This was an eye-opener for me. Here I am feeling disgusted while they are out there still 'throwing our garden city's face'. Okay, frankly, i can relate to their concerns.
Let me do a serious confession.Hello. My name is liying, without any spacing in between.
I'm obviously a girl, if it isn't obvious enough. I also have this super, uber, long name which says Any one will do, its your choice.
My awesomeness can't be contained in such a teeny-weeny box because i'm sensational. Yes, I'm loved, bayy-beh. I blog about everything under the sun and anything that's the past, present and the future. My profile page is non-existent, because its not long enough.
